Daniel Slamanig

Full Professor of Cryptology

I am a Full Professor of Cryptology at the Universität der Bundeswehr München in its Department of Computer Science and Research Institute Cyber Defence (CODE), where I head the Quantum Safe & Advanced Cryptography (QuSAC) Lab. My research interests cover a broad range of topics in cryptography. I am particularly interested in the design of provably secure and practical public key cryptographic primitives and privacy-enhancing protocols, their foundations and their application to provide strong security and privacy guarantees considering current rapid technological developments. Before joining the Universität der Bundeswehr München I was a Scientist (2017-2023) and then Senior Scientist (2023) in the cryptography group at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna, Austria as well as a Lecturer at TU Wien. Even before that I held a Senior Researcher position (2015-2017) and a Postdoc position (2012-2015) in the crypto group at IAIK (now ISEC), Graz University of Technology. I hold a PhD degree (Dr.techn.) in computer science from University of Klagenfurt, which I have obtained in 2011 (with distinction). I am a member of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Austrian Computer Society (OCG).

I am one of the designers of the Picnic family of post-quantum digital signature schemes (see also here), a scheme that made it to the final round (alternate candidate) in NIST's initial post-quantum crypto standardization project.
